Developing within/without architecture achieves the concrete business objectives; within the desired time period; with the desired quality and acceptable costs. Developing within architecture is the default. 

When developing within architecture, the project team receives a so called project start architecture. A project start architecture is a translation of the general principles and models to a project specific framework. This framework outlines the concrete standards; rules and guidelines that the project will utilize. The extra-project design choices will be documented in the project start architecture. The project start architecture is a collaboration between the architects and the members of the project team.

The objective of designing within/without architecture is to do the appropriate things at the appropriate times.
